The name "Tillie Towne" came about to honor my mom, Tillie, who is 91 years old and lives in Florida. She is originally from Yugoslavia and Vienna, Austria but lived in Ecuador, South America before coming to the United States in 1940. This amazing lady walks 2 miles a day and volunteers at a local hospital 4 days a week. She traveled up to see the store for the first time Christmas 2011. What an honor and delight! Despite her foreign origin, she has always loved the U.S.A. I often heard her say when I was growing up how grateful she was to live in this country...that there was no where like it in the world.
The combination of naming the store after her and selling American made products is definitely a great fit. My husband, Ross and I are convinced this is a small way we can make an impact on not only our local economy by selling local and regional products but by helping to keep Americans working in other parts of the country.. Our products come from Georgia, Tennesse, Alabama, Virginia, Vermont, Colorado, Utah, New Jersey, Maryland, South Carolina, and Missouri. We will continue to add new products in the future. |
