HomeBeddingFurnitureAbout UsContact After making a decision to leave a promising career with a major New York department store, an entrepreneur by the name of Jerry Pearlman, at the young age of 25, came home to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania with an idea. His idea was to manufacture mattresses and box springs and sell them directly to the public. With a small investment, he started his company in a garage across the river from Harrisburg, in Lemoyne. Because he insisted on using the best components and applied the highest standard of quality controls at all stages of manufacturing, the company became one of the largest retail mattress outlets in central Pennsylvania within five years. Consumers were not the only ones to be impressed with the high quality and dependable service of Lemoyne Sleeper. Universities, hotels, hospitals and nursing homes soon began to notice the high quality products that Lemoyne Sleeper was offering. The company has grown to be a dominant force in the contract and healthcare market. A subdivision of the contract department that has developed over recent years involves truck mattresses. Since many tractor trailer drivers also sleep in their trucks, a good quality mattress becomes a wise investment. In addition to the contract department, wholesale dealers and specialty shops also recognized a unique opportunity. They could purchase products that exceed national brands in quality and appearance and sell them for considerably less than national brands, providing their customers with “Factory Direct” prices. The contract and wholesale departments of the company have not been the only ones to grow. Mr. Pearlman has seen his retail division increase from one showroom to 13 showrooms in 41 years. Along with mattresses and box springs, the retail stores carry a wide range of related products including bedroom furniture, futons, daybeds, and accessories. Jerry Pearlman has seen his idea grow into a multi-million dollar business. From a converted garage using old rebuilt equipment, to a modern state-of-the-art facility. From five (5) employees in 1964 to providing jobs for nearly 100 people in the year 2000. From a used pick up truck to a fleet of tractor-trailers. From one mattress style, to a complete mattress line up featuring a wide variety of looks, support systems, and comfort levels, including softside waterbeds, airbeds, and electric beds. The company has become the largest independent mattress manufacturer in Pennsylvania, but has not stopped there. Lemoyne Sleeper also sells products to dealers in New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, and West Virginia. Mr. Pearlman has certainly backed his promise that, “at Lemoyne Sleeper, you don’t just buy a mattress, you buy a good night’s sleep!”
