These unique, one-of-a-kind, “Carpet Bags” are created from carpet material once destined for a landfill. The Carpet Bag Project is the result of a partnership between InterfaceFlor, a global leader in Sustainable Manufacturing Practices dedicated to achieving Zero waste, the City of Valley, AL, and the Valley Community Development Corporation. One of the goals of the partnership is to promote local green jobs and reduce waste.
The “Carpet Bags” are fabricated in the Historic Langdale Mill (established in 1866) along the banks of the Chattahoochee River. With the demise of the Textile Industry, the City of Valley, AL purchased the mill to help preserve our rich textile heritage and to create a center for economic development. The mill is undergoing Renovation and Revitalization after serving as the community’s main source of employment for nearly 150 years. The Master Plan for the Revitalization efforts includes Sustainable Practices that will create and promote green job initiatives and will incorporate Green Building Principles for adaptive reuse of existing structures.
